Theme of Workshop: Building Heroes of Faith
Wawasan Penabur and Media Associate Asia/International are holding a Writing Workshop on 16-20th August 2010 at Bukit Tinggi. The theme of the Writing Workshop "Building Heroes of Faith" aims at raising writers who could write to inspire youths to champion the cause of Christ and be heroes of faith.
Writers learn to write and draw upon the courage and stand of the heroes of the Bible, whose examples prove worthy of the attention of Malaysian churches. Another reason for drawing upon the premier examples of the Bible is to enable youths to forge solidarity with Biblical heroes. The writer to the Hebrews exhorted his readers that "since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangle us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith." (Hebrew 12:1-2)

Trainer of the Workshop
Dr. Miriam Adeney a well renowned writer and mentor of writers will be the trainer of our workshop. She has written many books and her latest book, "Kingdom Without Borders - An Untold Story" has inspired many hearts. Dr. Miriam is the Associate Professor of Global and Urban Ministries, Seattle Pacific University, teaching fellow of Regent College, and Adjunct Professor, Fuller Theological Seminary.

 Purpose of the Workshop
  1. The workshop intends to start a writing culture among Bahasa pastors, lay leaders or Christian Secular Writers who are involved in some form of writing like translation or writing of articles, lyrics, poems, newspaper or books.
  2. The workshop intends to start a partnership with Media Associate International and Media Associate Asia in training and nurturing more writers in Malaysia especially among the Bahasa speaking group.

Preparation Before Workshop
  1. Two months prior to the workshop, participants have to choose a hero from the Bible they like to work on and start working on it.
  2. Reflect upon the character, core values and actions which impress God and men in the life of the heroes.
  3. Writers are to read the Bible, consult books or commentaries written about their hero.
  4. Writers reflect upon how the hero bears similarity with their own lives, community or some individuals of their own community who display similar courage.
  5. Writers would attempt to connect with the emotions (fears, doubts, sadness and moments of victory) and draw it to their own present situation and challenges.
  6. Writers reflect some of the issues face by heroes relevant for youths and the Malaysian church such as romance, temptation, career and influence of other cultures.
  7. Writers are advised to write at least 5-10 glimpses of the hero they are working on before they attend the workshop.

 Deliverables of Workshop

  1. By attending this workshop, writers are expected to produce a book of 60-80 pages.
  2. Writers learn the art of weaving and connecting experiences of heroes to their own community and life.
  3. Writers learn how to build heroes for the Malaysian church and help youths to be firmly rooted in their faith.
  4. Writers learn how to use their own culture and experience, uniqueness of language, metaphor, poems, short sayings, local music and craft it into their writings.
